Canada is extending its work permit pilot for applicants being sponsored by their spouse or common law partner.
The pilot allows candidates to submit a work permit application along with their sponsorship and permanent residence applications, allowing spouses to find work more quickly after arriving in Canada. The three applications may be submitted together, or applicants can submit a work permit application after the sponsorship and residence applications if they have already submitted these.
Residents who received a work permit under the initial pilot must apply for an extension, as their status may otherwise lapse.
The work permit pilot will help families succeed together, since applicants can now help provide for their families while waiting for their application for permanent residence to be approved.
