Apply for Interim Pathway for Caregivers

Newcomers who have work experience in Canada as a home support or childcare worker can apply for permanent residence via the Interim Pathway for Caregivers.

As part of new Canadian legislation, the interim pathway makes it easier for home care workers and their families to become permanent residents. Applications should be submitted between March 4 and June 4, 2019.

Those applying must have a valid or pending work permit, work experience, pass a language test, and have a Canadian diploma or educational certificate. The language test must be taken by an approved agency issuing a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level based on the results. Those who don’t have a Canadian diploma can get their education assessed from an approved organization that provides Educational Credential Assessments.

Applications for the program can be found online, and fees must be paid online as well. Once finished, the application should be mailed with biometric screening documents to the Case Processing Centre in Edmonton. Processing times will vary depending on the type of application, but usually take an average of 12 months.
