This is in addition to the $50 million offered to Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba last year to deal with the housing crisis facing asylum seekers. The money is part of $2.4 billion in supplementary spending and will be used for “federal interim lodging facilities” across the country to ease the costs of temporary housing for municipalities and provinces.

Ontario and Quebec have been hit the hardest, with estimated expenditures of $200 million and $300 million respectively to address housing shortages.

No final decisions have been made about how the spending will be distributed amongst the provinces.
