Canada Issues Timeline to Ease Border Restrictions for Fully Vaccinated Travelers

The Canadian government has issued a timeline for its plan to ease border restrictions for fully vaccinated travelers.

Fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents will be allowed to visit Canada for non-essential reasons beginning on August 9, 2021. Any fully vaccinated travelers will be able to travel to Canada on September 7, 2021.

Travelers are required to complete their full vaccination 14 days before entering Canada. This policy is applicable only to travelers who have been vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the Government of Canada in addition to other specific eligibility criteria. Pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test results are still required for all travelers.

All travelers are still required to share travel information using the ArriveCAN app or web portal. The government’s timeline for easing border restrictions also requires domestic COVID-19 rates to continue current trajectories.

In anticipation of increased travel, Transport Canada is expanding the list of airports accepting international flights from four to nine including the addition of airports in Halifax, Quebec City, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Edmonton.
