Canada Resettled the Most Refugees in 2018

A new report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees showed that over 70 million people are now fleeing war and persecution.

According to the same report, 2018 saw 1.4 million refugees in need of resettlement, with Canada resettling 28,100 refugees, the highest amount for any country; the US came in second at 22,900.

Canada also ranked second-highest when it came to granting citizenship for refugees in 2018, with 18,000 refugees becoming Canadians.

However, most refugees are still in front-line countries, where they await processing. Turkey hosted 3.7 million people last year, while Pakistan hosted 1.4 million and Uganda 1.2 million.
