Canadian Government Offers Assistance to People Impacted by Tragedy in Beirut

The Canadian government is helping Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents currently in Lebanon as part of its response to the explosion in Beirut on August 4, 2020.

The government is prioritizing travel documents and waiving certain fees for Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents in Lebanon to help with an efficient return to Canada.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will prioritize visitor visa applications for spouses, common-law partners, dependent children, and parents or step-parents, of Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents who have been personally affected by the tragedy.

The federal government is also offering support to Lebanese citizens in Canada who are currently unable to return to Lebanon. These visitors can extend or renew their stay in the country and IRCC will waive the application fees.
