Canadian Refugee Protection Portal Updates

Canadian Refugee Protection Portal (CRPP) updates: mandatory use of portal for refugee claims effective immediately

Effective immediately, persons wishing to make a refugee claim that are residing in Canada must initiate it by creating an online account, filling out a questionnaire, and uploading supporting documents (as well as the Basis of Claim Form) on the Canadian Refugee Protection Portal (CRPP). This includes legal representation making claims on the behalf of these persons.

The Portal was creating by the IRCC on October 6, 2021. The IRCC is also offering an alternative method to making claims for people with disabilities and other obstacles, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Persons who have made claims that were received in person before March 17, 2020, do not need to resubmit through the Portal. Claims received by email or by Canada Post Connect also do not have to resubmit and will be processed through the methods that were in place at the time of their submission.

Among other general updates and improvements, there have been updates made to the instructions on how to use the CRPP.
