Canadian Universities Watching Out for Hong Kong Exchange Students

Canadian universities are monitoring the situation in Hong Kong to keep exchange students informed about the latest developments.

Changes in extradition legislation between Hong Kong and China has resulted in violent protests. Critics allege the changes threaten Hong Kong’s autonomy from China.

Many of the protests are occurring on Hong Kong’s university campuses. A Nov 17 protest at Hong Kong Polytechnic University resulted in a nine-day siege. As a result, many Canadian exchange students have been leaving Hong Kong early. Concordia students planning to study in Hong Kong are now opting to study elsewhere.

Although there are currently no travel bans to Hong Kong, Canadian universities have been keeping a close eye on this in case the situation changes.
