Federal Government Announces Stringent Conditions for Alaska Travel

The Canadian government has announced more stringent conditions and regulations for visitors travelling through Canada to Alaska for non-discretionary reasons.

Such travelers must enter Canada at specific ports of entry (POE) in Abbotsford-Huntingdon (British Columbia), Coutts (Alberta), Kingsgate (British Columbia), North Portal (Saskatchewan), and Osoyoos (British Columbia).

In-transit foreign nationals are directed to avoid leisure and tourist sites and complete their journey using the most direct route from their POE. In-transit foreign nationals will be issued a “hang tag” for their vehicle rear view mirror, which must be displayed at all times, and includes the date they must depart Canada.

These measures also apply to foreign nationals travelling from Alaska to the United States. In transit travelers must comply with additional requirements from the Public Health Agency of Canada.  All discretionary and optional travel between Canada and the United States remains restricted.
