Four of North America’s Top Tech Markets Are Canadian

Canada’s immigration policies enable tech employers to hire top talent from around the globe, giving Canadian cities a new competitive edge in the field.

According to CBRE’s 2019 Scoring Tech Talent report, Toronto is the third-ranked tech market in North America, surpassed only by Seattle and the San Francisco Bay area.

Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa also held significant rankings at 12th, 13th, and 19th place, with Vancouver showing the most significant growth, moving up from 25th place last year. Ottawa was the second most concentrated tech city and Montreal was Canada’s most cost-effective market.

Although the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle have traditionally been known as North America’s tech hubs, increasing demand for tech talent has companies such as Google and Amazon renting space in smaller, growing markets like Vancouver and Montreal.

In addition to achieving significant new growth, Vancouver ranks high in its retention of new professionals, including skilled immigrants. BC’s Provincial Nominee Progam and startup initiative help foster the growth of the tech industry in Vancouver, giving the city a boost as an up-and-coming tech hub.
