IRCC Announces Additional Express Entry Points for French-speaking and Bilingual Candidates

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced changes to the Express Entry system that will award additional points to candidates who are French-speaking or bilingual.

In the announced changes, bilingual candidates will now receive 50 points, up from 30 under the Express Entry system, while French-speaking candidates will now receive 25 points, up from 15.

The move is expected to promote Francophone immigration outside Quebec. The Canadian government has committed to reaching a target of 4.4 per cent French-speaking immigrant admissions in the rest of Canada by 2023, up from 2.82 per cent in 2019.
