IRCC Awards Recognize Four Canadian Businesses for Work with Newcomers

Four businesses have been recognized for their work with newcomers by the IRCC.

The winners are Glen Haven Manor, KPMG in Canada, MUFG Fund Services Ltd., and White Hat Drycleaners and Commercial Laundry.

First presented in 2015, IRCC’s Employer Awards for Newcomer Employment recognizes businesses helping newcomers find and retain work.

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced the winners at the 2020 Employer Council of Champions Summit and Awards. The summit helps the government and employers find ways to best integrate newcomers. Glen Haven Manor, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, recruited 15 continuing care assistants from Kenya and Jordan.

Glen Haven received support from the Economic Mobility Pathways Project on this initiative.

KPMG in Canada is in Toronto. They mentored 28 newcomers in 2019 and hired 13 newcomer mentees.

MUFG, from Halifax, hired 46 newcomers and achieved a retention rate of 91%.

At White Hat Drycleaners in Campbell river, 7 of its 10 employees are newcomers.

Mendicino applauded the winners’ efforts to help newcomers feel welcome.
