IRCC Clarifies Family Eligibility as Part of Reunification Measures

Earlier this month, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced specific measures to accelerate the reunification of families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These measures made accommodations for long-term exclusive dating relationships. IRCC has supplied more guidelines on extended family member eligibility and now includes the following:

fiancés/ fiancées
romantic partners,
boyfriends/girlfriends,
and any other couple in an intimate relationship.

These relationships must meet a threshold of at least one year. IRCC reminds extended family members to wait for approval before making travel plans. Extended family members will be required to have a quarantine plan upon arrival in Canada.
