IRCC Issues Biometrics Exemption Update

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued an update to its screening procedures to address delays as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 27, IRC halted its biometric collection services in response to the pandemic.

In an effort to assist applicants, IRCC has lifted the biometrics requirement for temporary residence applicants applying within Canada until further notice. IRCC advises this exemption will allow for the full processing of these applications.

IRCC highlights the benefit of this exemption for temporary residents seeking to extend or apply for new work and study permits. IRCC reminds temporary residents applying from within Canada to not pay the biometric fee when prompted on applications.
