IRCC Special Measures for those affected by Coronavirus

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has implemented special measures for Chinese, Iranian and South Korean nationals affected by the coronavirus.

Obstacles such as visa application centre closures, service disruptions and travel disruptions have caused issues for those needing immigration services. In response, IRCC has modified some processes to accommodate those unable to travel or access services.

For example, some foreign nationals can’t travel to Canada before their permanent residence documents expire. Those individuals can now fill out a web form explaining why they can’t travel and resume the process later. These forms can also be filled out retroactively in cases where the confirmation of permanent residence has already expired.

Landing appointments will now be held by phone and citizenship ceremonies will be cancelled.

All refugee claimant appointments will be cancelled until April 13, 2020, but individuals can still submit refugee claims in person.

Special modifications have also been made for those in China, Iran and South Korea who need to travel to Canada urgently.
