Immigration Drives Population Growth in New Brunswick

A population increase of 14,082 over the last four years in New Brunswick is mostly attributable to immigration.

Without it, the population would be shrinking rapidly. With a plummeting birth rate and aging population, immigration has given the province the influx of people it needs to continue to function economically.

During the first three months of 2019, the province added 1,103 newcomers, who made up the total increase in population for that period.

Immigrants in New Brunswick were mostly from Syria in 2016, however most are now from Asian and Pacific countries. Although the population growth rate is much slower than the rest of the country, how it’s growing is the same; nationally, immigration has counted for 80% of Canada’s growth so far.
