HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A CONSULTANT

Almost 4 years

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THIS INDUSTRY

My personal experience with the immigration process.

In 2008, I started the process of a spousal sponsorship. Being born and raised in this country I had no idea of what this really meant. The application was initially denied; I was crushed. By the time my appeal hearing arrived, I realized that I did almost everything wrong. At the end of the day, my appeal was allowed and I was elated. That feeling stayed with me to this day. A few years later, I started looking into the possibility of a career as an immigration consultant.

WHAT IS REWARDING ABOUT THIS FIELD

The joy when a client receives a positive decision.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR BEST MEMORIES FROM YOUR PRACTICE?

  • The positive decision we received from a Pre Removal Risk Assessment application we did in September 2016.
  • Meeting so many wonderful people in this field and learning from their expertise.
  • Going into business with my current partner. I would not have tackled so many of the difficult cases we have done without him. He is a true mentor to me.
  • Seeing clients receive a positive decision.

WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES IN THE IMMIGRATION CONSULTING FIELD?

  • Thinking outside the box and making sure all the bases are covered.
  • Sleepless nights because of tight timelines.
  • Negative decisions.

DESCRIBE A CHALLENGING CASE WHERE YOU HELPED YOUR CLIENT AVOID AN UNDESIRABLE OUTCOME

We had a client from Jamaica that applied for Protection. Some colleagues said it was a waste of time and would never be successful. We ignored the naysayers and stayed positive. Our application was accepted. The client was so appreciative and we were all ecstatic. To this day the client stays in touch with us to let us know how he is doing in his new country.
