The two new caregiver pilot programs announced by Minister Hussen in June come with a surprising new financial requirement.
The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots, which make caregiver work permits occupation-specific rather than employer-specific, also require that applicants show they have enough money to support themselves; this was not required under previous programs.
Advocates fear this caveat will create a barrier for many applicants, who may be vulnerable to exploitation by loan sharks.
