Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the launch of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) beginning on October 13, 2020.
The three-week program, which closes on November 3, 2020, provides an opportunity for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents by submitting an online interest to sponsor form.
IRCC will choose potential sponsors through a random selection drawn from the interest to sponsor pool and applicants have 60 days to complete their applications once selected. IRCC has also announced a temporary change to sponsors’ income requirements. For the 2020 tax year, sponsors are required to demonstrate only the minimum necessary income for sponsorship, not the customary additional 30 percent.
IRCC will accept up to 10,000 applications during the 2020 PGP admission and plans to accept 30,000 new interest to sponsor forms in 2021.
