New Policy to Support Ukranian Flight Victims’ Families

Canada’s federal government has implemented new temporary visa policies to support the families of the 57 Canadians who died on Flight PS752.

Foreign nationals grieving their family and needing to prolong their stay in Canada can seek temporary visas or extend their temporary resident status. Those who are directly affected by the loss or who are responsible for the affairs of the victim are eligible.

In some cases, immigration officers may waive the need for applications or processing fees. Some applicants may also be exempt from the need to provide biometric information. In addition, the definition of “family member” will be interpreted more inclusively than in standard immigration law. The ministerial instructions note that Canada extends deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
