Nova Scotia Retains Almost 10% of Its International Students

Although Nova Scotia has not yet reached its goal of keeping 10% of international students as residents, it’s well on its way.

An increasing number of international students who study in Nova Scotia are staying there—according to a study by One Nova Scotia, 9.4 per cent of international students now remain.

In 2014, only 35 international students were nominated to immigrate. In 2018 this number mushroomed to 440. The number of students who complete the immigration process to become permanent residents has also increased, with 210 former international students now living in the province compared to 125 in 2015.

Nova Scotia has been creating gradually more programs for international students since 2014, which may account for the increase in students who stay.
