Optimistic Returns for Atlantic Immigration Pilot

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has published an evaluation of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot program (AIP).

The evaluation reviews the program from its launch in 2017 to the end of the 2019-2020 fiscal year. AIP was developed as part of the Atlantic Growth Strategy and is an employer-driven model with newcomer settlement requirements.

IRCC reported that 5590 individuals entered the Atlantic Provinces through the program, with more than 80 percent employed in NOC B and NOC C industries. IRCC also reports that the program has greater immigrant retention rates than more established programs.

To improve the program, IRCC has recommended increasing newcomer awareness of settlement services available through AIP. It has also recommended increasing employer awareness of the Dedicated Service Channel (DSC) to take full advantage of the AIP to meet labour gaps.
