Prime Minister Issues Minister Supplementary Mandate Letter

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a supplementary mandate letter for Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

The letter both continues the mandate established for the minister in 2019 and reflects the changed circumstances as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized the importance of the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan to Canada’s economic recovery, highlighting regional pilot programs, expedited family reunification, and expanded economic income streams as key to this plan.

The letter also included instructions to continue government efforts to create pathways to permanent residency for health care workers performing essential services during the pandemic as well as for temporary foreign workers.
