Scammers Are Posing as CBSA Agents to Collect Personal Data

The Canada Border Services Agency has issued a warning about scammers posing as CBSA agents to collect personal data such as Social Insurance Numbers and credit card information.

Operating via phone, email, and text to communicate with their victims, the scammers have been using varying stories to lure victims into giving away their personal information. In response, the CBSA has issued an important reminder that they never ask for personal information over the phone or via email.

If you have received an email, text, or phone call that appears to be from the CBSA asking for personal information, it is a scam. Sometimes scammers will use official logos and employee names to mislead people, but even if it looks official, it’s important not to respond to them directly. Instead, report the communication to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
