Supporting LGBTQ2 Refugees this Pride Month

Canada was one of the first countries to launch a humanitarian resettlement program for vulnerable Afghans, which also includes those identifying as LGBTQ2.

June is pride month in Canada, and as the country begins its celebrations, the department of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship would like to take this opportunity to highlight Canada’s historic and current efforts in resettling vulnerable peoples freeing persecution, including those in the LGBTQ2 community.

The IRCC is also working with the Rainbow Refugee Society’s Rainbow Refugee Assistance Partnership. This program encourages Canadians to sponsor LGBTQ2 refugees. The program previously had space for 50 sponsorships and has now expanded to 150 to make room for Afghan refugees. The IRCC is grateful for supportive Canadians across the country.
