The Impact of Newcomers on Nova Scotia

The government of Nova Scotia is seeking participants for a study on the effects of immigration over the next 20 to 30 years.

In 2016 and 2017, Nova Scotia had an unusually large influx of immigrants, which should positively impact the region’s economy as baby boomers retire.

The study will answer specific questions, namely: how much immigration is needed to support economic growth, how does immigration impact the labour market, and how might this impact differ by region?

The study will examine the possibility of increasing immigration to the region, as the influx of newcomers across the province has already boosted its economy and has helped it meet the demands of the labour market.

The final report of the study is expected on February 28, 2019.
