Trudeau’s New Cabinet

Trudeau’s new cabinet was sworn in yesterday with a few changes.

New developments include Chrystia Freeland being promoted to Deputy Prime Minister - the second highest post in Canada’s government. She was also named Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. Her previous post as Minister of Foreign Affairs is now occupied by Francois-Philippe Champagne.

Former Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen is the now Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development. Toronto MP Marco Mendicino steps into Hussen’s former role.

MP Anita Anand, law professor at the University of Toronto, also received a promotion. She is now the Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility.

Navdeep Bains retained his innovation and science file and received an additional appointment: he is now the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

Marc Miller, who learned to speak Mohawk, is now the Minister of Indigenous Services.

Bill Morneau is still the Minister of Finance despite controversy last year over his decision to retain shares in his family business while working in cabinet.

Jonathan Wilkinson, former Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard is now Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
