Vernon, B.C. to join the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program

Vernon will be one of two B.C. communities taking part in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.

Applicants seeking permanent residence under the pilot will need to plan on living in the community and meet community specific requirements. They will also need to have enough funds to settle in the community if they don’t already have a job. General requirements include work experience and language skills. Vernon hasn’t submitted its community-specific requirements yet.

Vernon is one of 11 communities in Canada taking part in the Pilot: the West Kootenay region of Trail, Castlegar, Rossland and Nelson, B.C.; Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins, and Thunder Bay, Ontario; Claresholm, Alberta; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Brandon and Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba are the other communities involved. Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Altona/Rhineland have already begun the program, while it has yet to be launched in the other communities.
