Which Canadian Province Boasts the Most Immigrants?

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was put in place to address each province’s economic needs, allowing them to tailor their various immigration programs accordingly.

So how have they fared since the program was introduced?

According to research by the Conference Board of Canada, Ontario takes the lead when it comes to raw immigrant numbers. However, newcomers in the province only account for a very small percentage of its total population.

When we look at newcomers as a percentage of the total population, P.E.I. takes the lead, with 1.64 per cent of its population accepted as newcomers in 2017 compared to Ontario’s 0.8 per cent. By this metric, Saskatchewan ranks second, Manitoba third, Alberta fourth, and Ontario fifth.

But even this doesn’t paint the whole picture, as P.E.I. tends to lose immigrants to outmigration due to its small population. Saskatchewan and Manitoba, on the other hand, are able to retain the high number of immigrants they attract through the program, making them its biggest beneficiaries.
