Fingerprint Verification is Coming to Canadian Airports

The Government of Canada will soon require fingerprint verification in Primary Inspection Kiosks for non-Canadians seeking to enter the country.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) implemented fingerprint verification at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) recently and it will be gradually introduced at major Canadian airports throughout 2019. The government aims to reduce fraudulent entries and increase efficiency at the border by evaluating travellers’ biometric identities to seize stolen, borrowed, or counterfeit visas and permits.

Biometric enrolment, including fingerprint verification at the entry stage, is required for foreign nationals and permanent residents but not for Canadian and U.S. citizens. Biometric enrolment is now standard for new visa and permit applicants in many parts of the world.
