New US-Canada Border Security Measures

The Canadian Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have signed a memorandum of understanding allowing them to share basic biographic data on travellers.

As of July 11, travellers leaving Canada will still present their information to one U.S. border guard, but the entry information that U.S. Customs and Border Protection collects will now also serve as exit information for the CBSA. This change is one of the initiatives in the recent Bill C-21, An Act to amend the Customs Act.

Information collected will include the date, time, and location of a traveller’s exit along with the basic information found on page 2 of a passport.
