New funding and promotional strategies to attract foreign students and international work/study opportunities for Canadians will help Canada adapt to an increasingly global economy.
A new International Education Strategy, included in the Government of Canada’s 2019 federal budget, will receive $147.9 million over the next five years to start, and $8 million per year after on an ongoing basis.
The program will help students learn new languages and adapt to new cultural climates by studying abroad, as well as helping to attract talented foreign students considering education in another country.
The Strategy will be coordinated with provinces and territories, as well as specific educational institutions and key partners. The outbound student mobility program will be tested on a pilot basis to start.
