Road Trip from Bangkok
By: First on Nov 09, 2025 06:14 AM EST
Planning my first trip to Thailand and want to explore beyond the city. Is it realistic to drive from Bangkok to places like Ayutthaya or the beaches, or is the traffic too crazy? What is the best way to get a reliable vehicle for a week?

Driving outside Bangkok is totally doable and gives you amazing freedom! The key is to rent the right car for Thai roads right in Bangkok before you leave, check available options here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/thailand/bangkok . Get a small automatic car for city traffic and make sure your rental includes proper insurance and GPS. Avoid driving in downtown Bangkok, though, the traffic is intense.
