Canadian Government Introduces Agri-Food Immigration Pilot

The Government of Canada is addressing job shortages in the meat processing and mushroom production sectors by introducing the three-year “Agri-Food Immigration Pilot.”

The pilot aims to encourage skilled foreign workers to work in Canada to alleviate the labour shortage in the industry and help Canada reach its annual export objectives. The government intends to accept 2,750 applicants and their families, totalling an estimated 16,500 new permanent residents per year of the program. Applications will open in early 2020.

The agriculture and agri-food industry employs one in eight Canadians within its many sectors, making it one of the most lucrative economic stimulators in the country.
