Eligible Ukrainians in Canada may continue applying for open work and study permits
The Government of Canada has extended the temporary public policy allowing Ukrainians and their family members who arrived under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) measures to continue applying for open work and study permits.
Individuals who arrived in Canada on or before March 31, 2024, and hold valid temporary resident status may apply for a new open work permit, renew an existing one, or apply for a study permit until March 31, 2026, subject to standard fees.
Meanwhile, the temporary public policy for CUAET applicants whose cases were pending as of February 4, 2024, has expired as of December 31, 2024. However, all remaining CUAET applications submitted on or before July 15, 2023, will continue to be processed.
CUAET visa holders approved overseas may still travel to Canada during their visa’s validity but will now be treated as regular temporary residents. Border services officers will determine their authorized stay on arrival.
