Canada’s Express Entry System Now Provides a Pathway for French Speaking Candidates

Canada’s First Ever Express Entry selection for French Speaking Newcomers

To enhance the vitality of French linguistic minority communities, Canada will now prioritize invitations for French speaking immigrants. By opening new pathways and opportunities for French speaking newcomers, Canada aims to support economic growth through Francophone immigration outside Quebec.

On July 7th, 2023, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages, on behalf of the Honourable Minister Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the first Francophone round for category-based selection. Minister Fraser says, “By opening new pathways and opportunities, we are not only strengthening our ties with the global Francophonie, but also building a stronger and more vibrant Canada for all.”

Minister Fraser announced on May 31, 2023, new categories for category-based selection to invite candidates with specific work experience or French language ability to apply for permanent residence. Category based selection shows Canada’s commitment in attracting global talent, meeting the need of French speaking and bilingual workers, as well as addressing the labour shortages in communities outside Quebec.
