Canada’s New Immigration Minister is Marc Miller

Marc Miller, former Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, takes over as the new Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

In Wednesday’scabinet shuffle Marc Miller received  the role of Minister of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship. Canada’s outgoing Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser is now Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.

The Honourable Marc Miller was first elected in 2015 as the Member of Parliament for Ville-Marie —Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Sœurs, in Montréal. Prior to entering politics, Minister Miller was a practicing lawyer specializing in mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on international and commercial law. He also served in the Canadian armed forces as an infantry soldier.

Minister Miller made history in 2017 when he delivered a statement in the House of Commons entirely in Mohawk, marking the first time the language had been spoken in either the House of Commons or Senate since Confederation. Minister Miller was born and raised in Montréal, earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from the Université de Montréal and his law degree from McGill University.
