Canada Continues Open Work Pilot Project for Spouse and Common-Law Partners

The Canadian government has announced the continuation of its open work permit pilot project for spouses and common-law partners until rule changes come into effect to make the program permanent.

Under the terms of the pilot, spouses and common-law partners can apply for open work permits if they are applying for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class, have or are eligible for temporary resident status, and live at the same address as their sponsor.

The government believes the extension will assist families while supporting the economy.
