The U.S. News and World Report's 2019 Best Countries Report has ranked Canada as having the top quality of life, based on an evaluation of 80 countries.
Switzerland was ranked the best overall — quality of life was only one of 65 different criteria that included citizenship, cultural influence, and heritage. Canada still managed to make the top five overall, along with Germany, the UK, and Japan.
In the Quality of Life category, Canada ranked first above Sweden and Denmark, in second and third respectively. Canada also made the top three for the women and education categories.
Despite claiming first place, Switzerland faces many challenges, including an increasingly powerful right-wing political movement and anti-immigration backlash, facts that went unacknowledged by the report’s authors.
