Canada and Finland Signs Youth Mobility Agreement

The government of Canada and Finland have signed a new agreement which will allow its youth to live and work in the two countries.

Canada understands the importance of young people as they play a crucial role in growing the economy. The country has recently signed a youth mobility agreement with Finland which will come into effect in 2024. Under this new agreement, Canadian and Finnish youth aged 18 to 35, will be able to work and travel in each other’s country under International Experience Canada (IEC).

IEC is a reciprocal program that gives Canadian and international youth from every background the opportunity to gain international experience by working and traveling in each other’s countries. There are a total of three categories under the program: Working Holiday, International Co-op (internship) and Young Professionals. Youth will be able to participate in the program for up to 12 months per category.

Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship says, “This is an exciting day for young people in Canada and Finland. The signing of this youth mobility agreement means that it will be easier for Canadian youth to travel and work in Finland. For Finnish youth, this agreement will improve their access to jobs in Canada and provide them with opportunities to experience what our great country has to offer. At the same time, Canadian employers will have a bigger talent pool to find the workers they need.”
