Claresholm, AB has launched its RNIP

An Albertan town has received overwhelming interest after joining the Rural and Northern Immigration pilot project.

Claresholm received 4,600 applications while the town’s population is just 3,800.

The town is one of 11 communities chosen to participate in the program out of 55 communities that applied.

A panel is expected to invite 20 individuals and their families in the pilot’s first year. Plans call for at least another 20 in each of the next two years. Criteria will include language tests, work experience, education and settlement funds as per federal rules.

The pilot is expected to help local employers find entry-level workers. Speaking with CBC News, Joe Dippolito from food production plant El Molino welcomed the program. The current lack of production line workers has created a lot of overtime for current workers, according to Dippolito. It has also forced him to turn down business because he can’t keep up with demand.
