Foreign Talent Helps Canada's Economy

Canada’s immigration policies are designed to help highly skilled immigrants succeed and increase invitations for Express Entry to those who have studied in Canada.

Additionally, international students don’t need a job offer to apply for a work permit, increasing their options for staying in Canada after graduation. A 60 per cent surge in Canada’s international student population over the past three years means there were 570,000 international students in August, creating enormous potential for rising talent to bolster Canada’s economy should these students decide to stay in the country.

Prime Minister Trudeau has been focusing on immigration as a strategy to help population growth, which has paid off — Canada granted residence to 425,000 newcomers from September 2017 to September 2018, and in so doing boosted population growth to its highest level in three decades.

The recent focus on immigration has the added advantage of attracting top talent from across the globe, making Canada much more competitive in an increasingly interconnected world.
