IRCC Announces Testing Phase for In-Person Services

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) temporarily suspended in-person services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move disrupted services and applications, despite efforts to offer services virtually when possible. As such, IRCC is beginning a testing phase to help plan for a wider in-person re-opening in the future.

The limited service offerings include citizenship-related services, including citizenship knowledge re-testing and citizenship hearings, at Vancouver Expo, permanent residence-related services in Etobicoke and Montreal, and asylum-related services in Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, and Niagara Falls.

These select services will be available in-person by appointment only, beginning the week of September 21, 2020. Only those applicants who have been contacted by a Service Canada Officer and have a scheduled appointment may visit a Service Canada Centre.
