IRCC Guidance on Temporary Workers Authorized to Continue Work Without Permit

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued new guidance regarding temporary workers working without a permit.

As of October 20, 2020, a temporary worker will automatically receive an Acknowledge of Receipt letter from IRCC when they apply online for a work permit extension. This letter should be attached to the temporary worker’s expired work permit as proof of status and evidence that they are legally allowed to continue to work.

IRCC is also updating its public language regarding this change. The phrase “automatic extension of status” will be used instead of “implied status” to avoid confusion.
