Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released its first report on settlement service outcomes.

The report summarizes and analyses the experiences of newcomers from 2015 to 2019, with a particular focus on settlement services.

Many of those surveyed gave Canada’s settlement services positive reviews, indicating the importance of these services in their success. During the period studied, more than 1 million newcomers used settlement services in Canada, with 92% indicating their communities were welcome to newcomers. However, some identified a need for more awareness of settlement service offerings in addition to greater ability to respond to individual needs.

The Honourable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship described the importance of settlement services in remarks accompanying the report’s publication. Minister Mendicino stated, “Settlement services play a fundamental role in our immigration system. They’re the key ingredient of a newcomer’s success in Canada—whether it’s help getting a job, finding a place to live or learning English or French.”
