IRCC Takes Measures to Accelerate Spousal Application Processing

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently announced several measures to increase the speed with which spousal applications are processed.

Included in these measures is a 66 per cent increase in the number of decisions makers on spousal applications. In addition to previously announce changes to biometrics requirements, IRCC is launching a pilot to digitize paper applications to facilitate processing by employees working remotely.

IRCC hopes to finalize 6,000 spousal applications monthly during the rest of 2020. IRCC anticipates this will result in approximately 49,000 decisions for the year.
