Initiatives to Promote Francophone Immigration

As part of Canada’s commitment to honouring both national languages, several key initiatives are being put into place to make it easier for French-speaking immigrants to settle in Canada.

IRCC is collaborating with the organization La Cité to ease the transition from pre-arrival to citizenship for Francophone immigrants, helping them gain access to Francophone services and communities.

The Centre International d’études Pédagogiques is also involved as a second French-language tester in an effort to make French language tests more accessible. In March, the Centre Francophone de Toronto will provide services in French for newcomers and connect them to French-speaking communities as soon as possible.

The government plans to invest 36.6 million over the next five years on a Francophone Integration Pathway, helping French-speaking immigrants thrive and contribute to Canada’s economy. In a statement, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, said, “Diversity is a fundamental Canadian value, and our two official languages are at the heart of our identity.”
