New Investment to Provide Pre-arrival Services for Newcomers

The Canadian government recognizes the crucial role that settlement services play in assisting newcomers with a smooth transition in the country and building a prosperous life in the future.

These services provide them with the information and support they would need before and after they arrive in Canada.

On June 27th, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an investment of over $10.5 million to Collège La Cité and Colleges and Institutes Canada to help deliver important pre-arrival services to new immigrants. This investment is part of the overall settlement funding extensions that were previously announced on May 11th, 2023, when IRCC announced over $65 million for settlement services like pre-arrival services, services for racialized newcomer women, and language training for newcomers in Francophone minority communities.

Collège La Cité and Colleges and Institutes Canada offer online and in-person services to newcomers before they arrive in Canada. This includes information about the Canadian workplace, soft skills development, and employment counselling.

Denise Amyot, President and CEO, Colleges and Institutes Canada says, “We are very proud to be a pre-arrival service delivery partner for newcomers to Canada. Since 2007, Planning for Canada has helped more than 59,000 newcomers and their families make informed decisions and arrive with confidence. Investments in newcomers are investments in our communities.”
