New opportunity for British and Canadian youth

Canada and the United Kingdom (UK) have signed a youth Mobility Arrangement.

On July 14, 2023, Canada and UK signed a new Canada–United Kingdom (UK) Youth Mobility Arrangement. Under this arrangement, more Canadian and British young people will be able to work in each other’s country through International Experience Canada (IEC) and the UK’s Youth Mobility Scheme.

To be implemented in 2024, the new arrangement includes a number of improvements:

The expansion of eligibility age from 18 to 30 to 18 to 35.

The addition of two new streams—International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals

An increase from 2-3 years in the total period that participants will be able to stay in each other’s country.

UK Minister of State for Immigration, Robert Jenrick says, “The expansion opens up opportunities for even more young people to make lasting connections, build their skills and use the experience to contribute both to their host country and once they return home.”
