Starting October 1st, 2023, six provinces in Canada are increasing their minimum wage.

Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island will raise regional minimum wage rates starting next month. The minimum wage is the lowest wage rate set by Canadian provinces. This minimum wage applies to all employees, regardless of age or number of hours worked; paying less than the minimum set wage is forbidden.

The new minimum wage rate will be as follows:

Ontario: $16.55 per hour.

Manitoba: $15.30 per hour.

Nova Scotia: $15 per hour.

Saskatchewan: $14 per hour.

Newfoundland and Labrador: $15 per hour.

Prince Edward Island (PEI): $15 per hour.

Alberta is the only province left to increase its minimum wage. In fact, Alberta has not increased its minimum wage since 2018. British Columbia has the highest minimum wage in Canada at $16.75 per hour effective June 1, 2023.
